Christine Lafuente is known for her masterful use of color and painterly approach to still life and landscape painting. She considers her paintings to be poetic responses to visual experience.
Lafuente’s work is widely exhibited and collected. Throughout her 25-year career, Lafuente has had over thirty solo gallery and museum exhibitions. Her work was included in the Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts at the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
She is the recipient of an Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant, a Sketch Club Medal for Achievement in Visual Arts from the Philadelphia Sketch Club, a Louis S. Ware Memorial Scholarship for European Travel from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and a Stobart Foundation Grant. She was awarded both a Challenge Exhibition and an Artist Residency from the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. In 2020, Lafuente sheltered in place in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. There, she produced a body of work called Inside/Outside: On Pause in Old San Juan.
Lafuente received an A.B. from Bryn Mawr College, a Certificate in Painting and Printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and an M.F.A. in Painting from Brooklyn College.
She spends her summers painting in Maine. A native of Poughkeepsie, New York, she lives and works in Brooklyn.
