About

Using ancient gilding techniques and old master’s oil painting methods, Kay Jackson explores subjects ranging from climate change to the human figure in order to investigate how man, animals and natural systems are interdependent and connected in an ever evolving web of life. She calls it the “original internet’’.

The ethos of nature and human connection plays one of the most important roles in her work. The focus on environmental concerns such as global warming, endangered species, pollution effects, and over-population started in the early 1990’s as she sought to bring attention to these subjects so critical to our very survival. Her hope is that the artwork inspires a better stewardship of our“common home” and reminds us that every action has a ripple effect for better or for worse.

Jackson helps to preserve art forms potentially lost to newer media by using traditional techniques of past centuries. Her pieces depict both the fragility and resiliency of our ecosystems while exposing our planet’s vulnerability with a delicate artistic sensitivity.

Her paintings have been shown nationally and exhibited internationally through the State Department’s Arts in Embassies Program and Museums, The Smithsonian American Art 1Museum, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William & Mary and the National Academy of Science include her work in their permanent collections.
