About
Born and raised in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Barclay Rubincam studied with Gayle Hoskins and Frank Schoonover at the Wilmington Academy of the Fine Arts (today the Delaware Art Museum), as well as privately with N.C. Wyeth in Chadds Ford, PA.
Army service during WWII delayed the start of Rubincam’s professional career as a painter, but when he returned from duty, he set up a studio in West Chester, PA. He was successful enough to support his family with commission work, and also completed many paintings and maps of the surrounding local landscape he loved. Today, his paintings are valued for their richness of subject and for their preservation of Chester County’s history and beauty.
