Susan C. Mackey’s oil and watercolor paintings express her deep interests in drawing, light, color, composition, and design. Her broad subject matter includes still life, landscapes, and florals. She has also added animals and human portraiture to her repertoire. Her style is most commonly associated with modern impressionist and she is currently expanding her portfolio into colorful abstract painting as well.

A lifelong student of art and design, her family has always been an inspiration with her father in wood carving, furniture design, and landscape design, her mother in floral arranging, culinary arts, interior design, and needlework. Her children also followed in her footsteps as her daughter has a very successful career in branding and graphic design and her son has been part of the animation teams for several major motion pictures. Mackey showed a love for drawing and painting from a very early age and that passion continued to grow as she got older and started her formal training.

Susan C. Mackey studied at the Hussian School of Art, Philadelphia, PA, Eastern Baptist Seminary, Philadelphia, PA, and Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, PA. She studied botanical illustration at Longwood Gardens and apprenticed with several artists throughout Chester County. She is a member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, Chester County Art Association, Wallingford Art Center, and The Artists Guild of Delaware County. Susan Mackey has taught at several Art Associations throughout Pennsylvania, as well as private lessons in her studio. Susan also started The Empty Canvas Workshops, conducting over 20 faith-based workshops as well as multiple corporate workshops.

Through the years, Susan’s work has been accepted in numerous juried shows and exhibits. Many pieces have been sold to private collectors and corporations. Her work as been exhibited at Art Expo in New York and England. In recent years, Susan’s work has been sold to collectors, corporations, and hotels in Asia, Europe and the United States.

Six paintings were selected for a print series in cooperation with Renaissance Fine Arts Galleries and Editions Limited, San Francisco. Several other original paintings have been selected for greeting card printing through Allport Editions. Mackey continues to work in these endeavors.
